LESSON PLAN
DATE: Wednesday, May 02, 2012
CLASS: GRADE 1
SUBJECT: Science
TOPIC: The Frog Life Cycle
OBJECTIVES: Students should be able to:
1. Identify the stages in the Frog Life Cycle
2. Describe the changes that take place at each stage in the Frog Life Cycle
3. Correctly label a blank diagram of the Frog Life Cycle and arrange pictures of the stages in the Frog Life Cycle in the correct order.
INTRODUCTION: Students will view a short video depicting the Life Cycle of the Frog.
Step 1: Students will engage in a whole-class discussion based on the video viewed. They will be asked some probing questions to stimulate critical thinking. Eg. Does the baby frog look like the adult frog when it is born? If not, how is it different? Why do you think a life cycle is important? Compare the life cycle of a human to that of a frog and state any differences or similarities.

Step 2: Students will be asked to identify each stage in the life cycle of the frog and describe
the changes that take place at each stage. To do so, they will form a ring. The first person will name the first stage, then the next person will describe what happens at that stage. The next person will continue with another description until there are no more descriptions. Another person will name the second stage and continue just like in the first stage until all the stages are named and the descriptions given.
Step 3: Students will be divided in groups of four. Each person will be given a picture of a stage in the Frog Life Cycle. They will work together to arrange their pictures in the correct order they come in the Frog Life Cycle. Each group will be given a computer system to work with. They will play an online game relating to the frog life cycle.

Closure/Conclusion:
Recap the lesson with a short rhyme:
The frog life cycle begins with eggs
Then out hatch tadpoles with no legs
Then four legs come in pairs of two
A pair for me and a pair for you
The adult frog comes at stage four
Ready the start the cycle once more.
Really loved the rhyme in the conclusion.
ReplyDeleteseriously, this is awesome!!! think the class would be more interesred in this than me standing @ the board trying to draw each stage. Amma try it for the butterfly which i covered for my Grade 3 class.
